Abstract

Purpose: This study was done to compare the patients¡¯ health characteristics staying at long term care hospitals by dementia and to investigate factors related to health characteristics in patients with dementia.

Methods: A descriptive research design was used. A total of 116 older adults aged more than 65 living at long-term care hospitals participated in the study. Data were collected using questionnaires and electronic medical records from July 4 to August 28, 2022.

Results: The proportion of patients with dementia group was 51.7% (n=60). Factors related to health characteristics in patients with dementia included sex (OR=3.40, p=.002), nutrition (OR=3.00, p=.026), infection (OR=2.54, p=.029).

Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, monitoring the nutritional and infection status of older adults staying at the long-term care hospitals would be helpful into preventing and managing the health problems in patients with dementia.
